~Rosey~ Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Is anything happening with this thread? Its been dead for awhile now.
-Jade- Posted April 28, 2007 Report Posted April 28, 2007 Well currently, all those who helped organised it have been extrememly busy, or otherwise unavailable to help. For the time being, we don't see a time when we're going to be able to continue because it's that exam time of year (etc..) and everyone's busy. I think we hope to start it up again once we hit the summer holidays or some time like that, and then we can talk to Jess (sevenpuddings) about it and organise something. It's not dead, but it's currently resting!
~Rosey~ Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 There just one small problem Us Aussie people are going into Winter holidays which is 2 weeks And most of us dont have exams untill November Well I dont anyhow.
-Jade- Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 Ah, yes, that would be a problem. lol Well Jess lives is Australia so I'll talk to her, but we're never going to realistically find a time for everyone. She was the person who started the last challenge so I'll talk to her about.
Skykat Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 As Jade said this thread died a death because those running it were so busy with other stuff. However.. exam period is nearly over and both Aus and UK are heading towards the holidays so Jess and I have been talking and we've decided to resurrect this thread. The first competition will be jointly hosted by Jess and I and regardless of who wins, the next competition will be hosted by the next name on the hosting list (Kat) provided she still wants to do it. The winner will be decided by reviews only. So to start this thread back and get people involved we've decided to start with a very simple, very open challenge. Fanfiction Challenge #6 Theme: Holidays / holiday Type: One shot Word Limit: Essentially none but we want one shots not ongoing fics posted in one thread so say maximum 10,000 words. Restrictions: No Aus spoilers Deadline: 21st July - 6.00 PM GMT ---------------- For those who aren't sure how the competitions work: If you want to enter simply work on your entry and when you've finished PM it to one of the hosters either Skykat or sevenpuddings. Simply copy and paste it into the PM. For impartiality we recommend that if you want your story proof read you send it to one of the hosters AT LEAST a week before deadline date with a note saying that you would like it proof read. We will then proof read it, correct any errors we find and suggest minor changes and send it back to you. You then send us the finished version, clearly marked 'finished' before the deadline date. Once the deadline has been reached we will post all the entries we have received one after another in a new thread. People are then asked to vote for their favourite story but votes will only be counted if all the entries are reviewed. Why should I enter? There is no prizes for entering these challenges and you don't get to host the next one so the main reason to enter is to push yourself and improve your writing. Votes are only accepted in the challenges if all stories are reviewed so you are guaranteed to get feedback on your writing. By feedback we mean more than just 'lol I loved it'. We have a guideline for reviews and we encourage people to pick out the good points, points to improve, strengths, weaknesses, constructive criticism etc. Its your chance to put your writing out to a wider audience than to those who are interesting in the pairings you write about and a real chance to improve your writing. I know a lot of people who have entered past competitions, though they may have been put off by the reviews at first, genuinely feel that their writing has improved as a result of the feedback they received. For those who are interested or want to see how it works here are links to the previous challenges: #1 #2 #3 #4 (#5 was the abandoned one in case you're wondering ) All the threads contain a link to the comments thread where you will find reviews for all the entries so you can get an idea of the level of feedback you can expect. --------------- Any questions, anything you're unsure of please ask in this thread. PINNING TO ATTRACT ATTENTION.
-Jade- Posted June 16, 2007 Report Posted June 16, 2007 Brilliant! Count me in - I really need something to help me get back into the writing things after such a long break from it! This is, IMO, one of the best things on this board - it's helped me hugely, so I hope others will be interested too! I'm guessing that, like before, the theme is down to personal interpretation - as in, it could be, the aftermath of a holiday, or something...? Is that still the case, or am I wrong? And presumably it has to be linked to home and away... do the characters have to be h&a ones then (since, the setting is unlikely to be)?

And presumably it has to be linked to home and away... do the characters have to be h&a ones then (since, the setting is unlikely to be)? Holiday means whatever you want. Kat and I simply thought, with Australians going on Winter Holidays, and Europe going on Summer Holidays, then it would be fitting all round. But yes, it could be the aftermath of a holiday, the actual holiday, the planning of a holiday, the dreaming of an ultimate holiday to pass time, or an imaginary holiday because they can't get out of summer bay [YES, nice suggestions there, I know!] I think we'd like to see it being related to H&A. We never moved away from H&A as a subject, and that is something that I really thought worked. So yeah, H&A character from the past or present, or even, some from the future if you really want to challenge yourself - but a link to the characters on the show from the past would be nice then. I hope that we'll be recieving a whole bunch of entires this time around, because there are many active writers on this board at present, and the limitations are really few and far in between!
emmasi Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 This seems like just the thing to get me to write that fic that I've had running around in my head for about half a year
I love music Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 I won't be entering of course but I'll definitely review the entries. And while I'm waiting for a certain person *cough* to finish and forward me the next chapter of SBH for proofing I'm not working on anything at the moment so should be okay for proofing just now.
-Jade- Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 ^ You really should enter... If it's for the same reasons that you didn't enter the previous challenges, then I think that, for once, you should ignore them.
