Pierced Musie Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 If it is about goodbyes then I am in. ^ Shane came to that decision for me .
-Jade- Posted November 7, 2006 Report Posted November 7, 2006 Great! Well, one of the prompts will be goodbye so you'll be able to choose it. But obviously, I will go into more detail tomorrow. Now I'm off to my wonderful bed.
Skykat Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Couple of questions: Did we decide on a no votes/review only challenge for now? Did you receive any PM's off people wanting to host/ set a challenge? With my librarian powers I can now edit other people's posts so I was thinking if we are going to keep a list of people to host the subsequent challenges I can just edit the first post in this thread (Jess's) and we'll put the list in there so everyone can read it and you don't have to scroll through millions of pages to find it. That way everybody will know who is hosting the next challenge, there can be no arguments about the order or anything else. Is that a bad idea?
furrylogic Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Nope it sounds like a great idea. Thankgoodness for you and your Librarian powers!! And the ideas for the challenge sounds pretty great too. Im very excited because uni is over and now I have time to write. I just need a reason to.
-Jade- Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Ok, well firstly, not one person offered to host which kinda means that there will have to be votes in order to determine the next host. However, votes will be restricted to posts only, no poll. I'm thinking of having a system where your vote is only valid if you actually review all the stories at least briefly - let me know what you think on that. But now I shall go onto the challenge... FANFICTION CHALLENGE No5 Firstly... Ok here are four prompts, of which you can choose one to center your story around. So, they are: 1. Goodbye. 2. Arrivals/Arriving. 3. Return. 4. Sex and Candy (thanks to Jess for that idea - as she said, this is for the more adventurous.) Basically, the first three were based, as you can tell, on when I went away, because it occured to me that you did feel certain emotions when say returning to your home etc... I know I was so looking forward to my bed. lol And the fourth one, suggested by Jess, I really chucked in there because it's fun and I know some great stories could come out of that. Obviously the above prompts are there to be interpreted in your own way, however, here are some questions and thoughts that could maybe inspire you... 1. Goodbye - When looking at goodbye don't just think of it as someone leaving. Of course it could be, but it could also be saying goodbye to a person who's already been gone, or saying goodbye to a situation that's been holding you down; getting out of a relationship that wasn't right or letting go of some kind of emotion. So anything. Think outside of the box. 2. Arrivals - Ok, this kinda implies someone new arriving, as the next prompt would cover people coming back. So this is your chance to maybe introduce a new character to Summer Bay. Possibly one with an ulterior motive, or one who could turn everyone's life around. It could be a long lost sibling someone didn't know they had. I know I'm going a bit over the top here but you get the idea... lol 3. Return - So, how would you feel if someone you thought was long gone returned from the past? Could it be good? Bad? Strange? Return could simply be meeting up with someone who's been away on holiday but it could also be more. The idea would be to maybe put down in writing how a person would be affected by the return of someone, or maybe even feelings they thought were long gone. Maybe there could be a return of emotions triggered by an event. 4. Sex and Candy - the words say it all don't they? This could be a really fun piece to write- light hearted but intense as well. Sex and Candy really does imply something slightly naughty and possibly erotic, so anyone who has a go at this, have fun writing it and go all out - don't hold back. There is no rating restriction though a warning will be put at the beggining of the piece and it goes without saying that completely, unshamefully graphic pieces would be innapropriate. Remember that what you imply can be as important as what you denote. And as said above, think outside the box, this might not be just about a couple in love, it could be an affair, a forbidden relationship, or a relationship that wouldn't be acceptable to society. It could just be someone teasing another, but to great effect. What I'm looking for from the entries in this challenge is orginality. Authors push yourselves, don't just go for the norm, do something different, invent a plot no one else has, create a pair no one has thought of. Do something to set your story apart from all that have previsouly been written. Use structure and time to interesting effect, maybe try to start your story in a less conventional place (i.e. straight into the middle of the action). Secondly... Setting can be anywhere and at anytime. Thirdly... Home and Away characters must be included and would be advised for some of the prompts, but non h&a characters can also be used, no problem. Fourthly... There's a maximum of 3500 words, and a minimum of 1500 words, give or take 10% either side. Stories can be in parts or simply a one shot. Finally... Well in terms of the deadline, I have exams from now until the 8th December, so for me it would be ideal to set the deadline then, but I really think that would be stretching out the challenge more than it should be. So, I'm gonna say that all entries have to be in by the 24th November at 6:00 pm (this is UK time - I will check out what that will be for you aussies). That gives everyone roughly 2 weeks and a couple of days. If anyone has any problems with anything then don't hesistate to PM me! I think I have covered everything... But most importantly, enjoy writing it! Hopefully the standard will be as high for this challenge as it has been for previous ones!
Skykat Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Sounds interesting. Not sure I'll have the time to sort something in two weeks, I'm insanely busy at the mo but I will if I can. Great challenge Jade.xx As for the next hoster, my personal opinion is that I'd really rather not have a winner of any kind but obviously if no-one offers to host then a winner based on reviews only is the best option available. However I'd like to encourage anyone with something in mind or who wants a try at hosting to offer to host the next challenge. If you are interested you can PM me, I assume you can still PM Jackandmartha!!! or you could post in here that you want to host. Don't be put off by the workload, as mentioned before you don't have to be solely responsible, you can have help with any aspect of it. And if we do get more than one offer we'll simply go with the list idea. thanks.
-Jade- Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Would you prefer more time to get your entry in? Because as I said above I could do a month, because that would be ideal for me since my exams finish then... In terms of hosting/winning I'm personally fine with having a winner, maybe it drives certain people to enter, but yea, sure if I get a list of people then I'd be happy to do a non winner thing if thats what people want. Right now that looks unlikely though since not one person has put their name forward to host.
sevenpuddings Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I'll host the next challenge if no one else wants to? I really don't mind... As for this challenge, I'm glad you liked the ideas... I love this challenge, hopefully we'll have some amazing stories, both fun and moving.
-Jade- Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 I know, I wouldn't mind hosting either but I would say leave in the voting, just in case someone new wins and gets to host. Because, although people might not have volunteered to host, that's not to say that they wouldn't host it if they won.. I personally think that the voting is the best way, but if a majority think otherwise then I'm fine with whatever.
furrylogic Posted November 9, 2006 Report Posted November 9, 2006 Sounds like a great challenge so Im in. But... I have to say that I'd personally prefer no votes. Just reviews. I was thinking of just a random idea. Hows this sound? We could have three weeks to a month for entries. Then the challenge could be posted by you Jade (cause you're going to be hosting). Then... As a little extra idea/thing, instead of worrying about a winner or challenge right before christmas anyone that wanted to, could write a little one shot christmas story. Like It was the night before Christmas and all through the Summer Bay house... Then those could be posted to the lead up to christmas for a fun was to celebrate. And then Challenges could resume in the new year, where we could then discuss who would host/if anyone would want to volunteer etc... And if we actually need a host or perhaps it could be a group discussion about ideas for the next challenge. And extending the time period for this challenge allows for people to write a christmas one shot, which wouldnt have to be long or perfect or anything. Just festive with a christmas feel to it. However this also allows for those who arent able to enter this challenge, maybe because of time restrictions, commitments etc, well it gives them a chance to write something nice and fluffy. And fun, because thats the main point of all this right? Anyway that's just an idea I thought I would throw out there.
