Guest Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I start my Fic in January as you can see it on my Singture
sevenpuddings Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Random place to avdertise a fic that won't begin for three months I was really iffy about Number 1, because I feel that characterisation and development of characters is really important, but I don't want people to take it the wrong way and reply with "Well, my fave couple we're together so I didn't like it" Every story needs to develop the characters used, so in the end I figured it would be important to all the challenges. As for splitting two, again, I was iffy about whether it involved too much or not enough. So splitting it would be the perfect solution Any other thoughts?
-Annie- Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Woah! 3 pages in one night! We're on a roll guys.... Nicole - Lovely to have you back... You've made some fair points there...got me thinking.... Jess - Yep, they sound great to me. Sometimes when I'm reviewing I feel like I sound a bit lame…so having some guidance will be great. And rereading through those rules has got me in a massive panic! I haven’t started writing yet! The deadline for some reason just slipped completely out of my head…I’ve just wrote dribs and drab…*smacks head* Dammit.
Pierced Musie Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 1. Was the interaction between the chosen characters believable? Can I just make a suggestion here? Instead of was the interaction between chosen characters believable, how about asking if the character was believable? Were you able to picture it in your mind and hear the character saying it? Do you feel that the author managed to tap into the character to make it their own?
Skykat Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I like that suggestion. I think characterisation is a key writing skill and quite importanbt to be commented on. I was thinking why doesn't Jess's suggestion just tag on to Tainted Muse's?: Was the character was believable? Were you able to picture it in your mind and hear the character saying it? Do you feel that the author managed to tap into the character to make it their own? Was the interaction between the characters believable?
sevenpuddings Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Okay, second draft of reviewing quidelines is as follows: Review Guidelines Please remember that while reviewing, there is more than simply the character/pairing to be taken into consideration. Here are some questions you might consider when reviewing each story. 1. Was the character was believable? Were you able to picture it in your mind and hear the character saying things? Do you feel that the author managed to tap into the character to make it their own? Was the interaction between the characters (if applicable to the story) believable? 2. Were there any lines or moments that stood out to you? Why did they stand out? 3. Did the author use descriptive language and/or emotive language to draw you into the story? 5. Overall, was the story appealing to you? Why/Why not? 5. What do you feel could be improved by the author? Do you have any suggestions for them? Right now I can't be bothered underlining/italicising words... do you think it should be done or will it just detract from the overall feel?
Skykat Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 That's great Jess. I'll definately be using it as a guideline for reviews with this challenge. Annie, re your earlier post: if there's anything I can do to help you finish your entry on time just say so.
.Amy. Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 This may be a stupid question but can you have more than one entry?
Skykat Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I don't know you know. I guess it might make the competition unfair if someone has more than one entry but I guess if the idea is to get your story reviewed and critiqued then I'm not sure it would be a problem. I'll PM Jess and see what she thinks seen as the competitions were her idea. In the meantime somebody else may post with an answer, sorry I can't help. If you're writing another entry why not send it for proofing either to myself or I Love Music? It can't hurt to get it prepared just in case. Even if you aren't allowed another entry you'll be able to get someone else's opinion on it and then you can post it on the board. That's what I'd do.
