offtopic: Merc - is the copy of the Duncan/Seb/Jade carcrash ep on your server therefore an intact copy?

I have not seen the cut version (UK) nor the uncut (Aus.), so I don't know, but I believe it to be uncut.

Did anyone notice, in addition to new titles the advert for wheetos also changed? I thought that was quite funny, as I thought only UK viewers get that promo...

Yeah, those sponsorship stings are exclusive to the UK. I guess it was just coincidence that the ad changed the same day as the opening titles.

I was actually pleased that the announcer acknowledged that this was the season return, and explained the longer-than-usual recap.

The UK version was cut i have an email in which Five admitted to a bit where viewers hadnt picked up on.

Date: 2nd December 2004

Dear Richard

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Home And Away

Five, like the other commercial stations in the United Kingdom is

licensed and regulated by Ofcom (Office of Communications). In short

Ofcom looks after viewers' interests and maintains the standards for

programmes, advertising and technical quality.

As a broadcaster we have to comply with the Ofcom Programme Code, this

includes Family Viewing Policy and the Watershed (Section 1.2). A number

of the outlines laid down are listed below.

1.2 Family Viewing Policy and the Watershed

* Material unsuitable for children must not be transmitted at

times when large numbers of children may be expected to be watching.

* However Ofcom accepts that, even though some children are always

likely to be present in the audience, the likelihood varies according to

the time, subject matter and channel. The majority of homes do not

contain children and viewers have a right to expect a range of subject

matter.

* The necessary compromise is embodied in Ofcom's Family Viewing

Policy which assumes a progressive decline throughout the evening in the

proportion of children viewing, matched by a progression towards

material more suitable for adults.

* Within the progression, 21.00 is normally fixed as the time up

to which licensees are responsible for ensuring that nothing is shown

that is unsuitable for children. The earlier in the evening a programme

is shown, the greater the care required.

* Not all daytime or early evening programming will be suitable

for very young children. Licensees should provide sufficient

information, in terms of regular scheduling patterns and on-air advice,

to assist parents to make viewing choices.

* After the watershed, and until 05.30, material more suitable for

an adult audience may be shown. However, care should be taken in the

period immediately after the watershed. There should be a gradual

transition and it may be that a programme will be acceptable at 22.30

for example that would not be suitable at 21.00. Decisions will also

depend on the nature of the channel and the audience it attracts.

Material which is particularly adult in tone should be scheduled

appropriately and clearly signposted.

All these points have to be taken into consideration when programmes are

made or films are scheduled.

The only two scenes that were edited from this episode involved

instances of strobing in the disco and a scene where Seb's body is flung

from the bonnet as the car impacts.

We have logged your comments in the Viewer Enquiries Report, which is

circulated throughout the company. Also, your complaint will be noted

in the quarterly report to our regulator. Commercial television is

regulated in the UK by Ofcom (the Office of Communications).

Thank you for your interest in Five.

Yours sincerely

VIEWER ADVISOR

We had missed the bit where he was flung from the car. There were a few other bits as well - like when Duncan stole the keys i think it was.

5 are basically a crap channel who are ruining Home and Away, we want to see a full, uncut episode every night, it's not on what they do, we must do everything we can to put a stop to it and get them to listen to us, we are the most important, without viewers, no show would ever exist.

Plus they really need to start showing PROMOS at the end of every episode, to keep their viewers interested, i'm surprised they get many for any of their shows anyway, they're useless, always were.

Rich, I think it's best if someone from the UK/Aus could have a look at the episodes with Duncan/Jade+drugs to see. I don't think they were cut at all. They are on the server, and clearly markes. The epsiode where the car goes over the cliff top is marked as "Cliff+car=bad" as well as the episode number, and can be found in the 2004 folder.

I don't think they do ruin it though. If it wasn't for Five we wouldn't get to see Home and Away (and I think the announcers are cool). I suppose I'm just grateful I get to see the show at all, and I can live with a few cuts here and there.

I agree, it was good of them to take it on, but what's the point if they're going to hack it to pieces. We must be allowed to see uncut episodes, even if they have to put it in a later time slot, it's the principal of the matter, i feel very strongly about this and i'm determined that viewers who agree that cutting it isn't fair should all band together in a bid to stop it.

All I can say is good luck in your quest. Maybe I'll change my mind if Five start showing uncut episodes and I realise I'm missing loads of shots of Tony in his skants :D
