Another question I wondered about, is not so long ago flashing avatars were banned, and I remembered reading that the reason was because of epileptic sufferers. Now, I don't mind that they are banned, and I would hate to think that my avatar caused anyone harm, but aren't the flashing pop-ups on websites worse? I've seen some really big flashing ones, the ones that come up and flash red, blue and all sorts of different colours. So if a 100x100 pixel changing-picture avatar can cause an epileptic attack/fit, (i forgot what they're called), then wouldn't it be dangerous for epileptic sufferers to use the internet, because of the common flashing pop-ups?

Please understand that I'm NOT moaning about them being banned, I don't really mind about it. :) It was just a thought that crossed my mind.

I was on Ebaum's World the other day and there was a flashing banner at the top of the screen that made me feel a bit funny, and I'm not normally susceptible to that kind of thing. People need to be really careful with this kind of thing.

Last I heard, bttb doesn't have control over flashing pop-ups all over the internet. But they do have control over flashing avatars on this forum. Hence the ban here.

Back to the original topic of editing the episode. As people have mentioned, the edits were small and insignificant. Had edits been made that ruined the episode I would have complained and wished they had left alone or moved to a later timeslot. But since the edits didn't actually do any harm to the episode or remove vital scenes (like it did with the duncan/jade/seb car accident) then I don't see the biggie. So a few non-important words were deleted to stop people having epileptic fits. I think I can cope with that.

No tonights episode wasnt a biggie I presented the facts that there were cuts made. Which people deserved to know about. Tomorrows episode which I will also be watching carefully may be a different story! I will also post any cuts and hopefully clips too should the need arise.

By the way I started the different subject because I thought it would be interesting to see why one thing like Flashing lightning on the telly would set off epilepsy and if real lightning has the same effect or not. It is true also about the flashing banners/aviators which nicole just mentioned but stated clearly that no moaning was involved. It was merely a point which she stated she agreed with.

This may sound like a stupid question, but in Australia our TV networks don't even present warnings about flashing lights or anything like that which may trigger an epileptic fits, seizure, etc. let alone actually cut things out.

Why is it common practice to remove those scenes in the UK but not so here? Are there many more epilepsy sufferers in the UK, or is it simply a case of your TV networks going to extremes to cover themselves against any possible litigation?

I was thinking about that too, we don't have warnings or anything like that in Australia?

Back on topic...:P...The thing about the cuts is that if you have not seen the original then you dont know they have been made and so you don't miss them....I told a friend there had been a few cuts and she wa surprised as she would not have realised otherwise. ...I think it is perhaps only the die hard officianado's who are really going to be upset about it.What you don't know about you cant get upset about!

Re: the flashing pop ups etc...most epileptics will block them , in fact most people block them...I do...I hate the damn things.

I have just one question. and this isnt a mock

What do epileptics do during thunderstorms? Surely the real lights should affect them as much as TV ones.

I have been prone to the odd photosensitive seisure. Flashing lights on tv, theatre, shops, even computer games (blame my estranged father for the info inside games). As for thunderstorms, we don't have many in Scotland (or at least my part), and haven't experienced anything with them. Strobe lighting, if thats what was used in H&A, is the worse offender for this kind of seisure, if it was shown, i would not have been able to watch my fav prog.

You know, as always I was ahead of the game, and requested that flashing avatars were BANNED in 2004. Anyone notice how many of the great ideas were originally mine.
