Well Samantha, being Carlys twin, was also played by Sharyn Hodgson, but it had nothing to do with the Macklins. I cant quite remember the details of it but it was something to do with their dad, George, who put Samantha up to going to Summer Bay to convince Carly that their dad was sorry for the way he treated her and wanted her to come home and live with them again. God I really cant remember this at all now. I think he only wanted Carly back because of the fact she was Samanthas twin, and there was some big job he wanted to get involved in, which required a pair of twins. Samantha was an actress or model or something and George only wanted to get Carly back on side to make some money out of her and Samantha doing some gig together - I think! It was definately something along these lines, hopefully someone with a better memory can clarify it further. I do know Carly did eventually go with Samantha to George but she found out what was going on and ditched the both of them before heading back to the Bay. The Macklins didnt appear until when Roo was sent to boarding school by Alf. She met Brett Macklin there, got pregnant, came back to the Bay, found out she was pregnant, told Brett who wasn't interested, tricked Frank into believing he was the father, got him to propose to her based on this, and then the whole sorry deal that went down afterwards played out. Brett didn't reappear until he'd had the mumps and been told he couldnt have kids any more, so he suddenly got interested in the baby Roo was carrying and wanted custody of it when it was born. It was probably around about this time that Stacey Macklin turned up too and the whole Sands Resort thing kicked off. And all of this happened in the very first year of the show.
gryphons_halo Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I was trying to find out more about the Samantha storyline on the net - no joy with that but I did find this paragraph about Carly on a site. Carly was an unwanted child. Being the second born twin meant she was destined to a life of cruelty and rejection. She spent her first 14 years fighting with her sister Samantha and trying to avoid her Father. When her Mum died from a burst appendix Carly accused her Father of having killed her Mum as he hadn't taken her to the hospital in time. She was eventually rescued from her father's house when a social worker found her heavily sedated and locked in her room. Carly was taken to the Fletcher house there were fewer luxuries than she was used to seeing but a lot more love and happiness. It took Carly several years to settle down and she gained a reputation for being selfish. After a string of boy friends she finally met and Married Ben Lucini and they eventually moved away to start a family of their own. She called her first daughter Pippa after her second Mum. That last line struck me - I don't actually remember that at all, though to be fair I have no idea what her kids names are. I certainly dont ever remember her mentioning a "Pippa" in any of her visits to the Bay over the last few years. Is this true?
ste Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 She hasn't mentioned a "pippa" but that doesn't mean it didn't happen and it's just been forgotten about. After all, Alf has a 4th sister he's forgotten all about!
Missy Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 That is weird, I don't remember her calling her child Pippa. It also seems weird that Sally would then go on to do the same. Could have been convieniently forgotton to fit in though I suppose.
