george Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Should the children be given lines in the show or more screentime? or more storylines even lighthearted ones ie VJ runs away (they did this quite well in Hollyoaks last year with a 6yr old) I mean VJ is going to be 5 this year (on Oz screens) but rarely says anything and is'nt seen much. I know they can only be on the show for certain time periods. Should they be on the credits? Neighbours have their child actors in the main credits so should H & A? Young Oscar in Neighbours is 2 and says more than VJ What do others think? George
xGlowingAngelx Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 The thing is, they have to take into consideration the fact that by giving the younger actors more screentime for storylines or purely just as extras, is putting extra pressure on them, and also the childs parent's might not want them working all the time. It has to fit into the childs regular routine or else it will just confuse them. but SPOILER BELOW: * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Doesn't VJ have a main storyline coming up in Australia this week?
Marieh Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 yupp. he drinks alcohol and ends up in hospital
myken Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Children have been talking on the show in earlier times though. Angel`s son Dylan had his lines back in 1995-1996, and same with Jesse`s daughter Rachel back in 1997 and so on.
cool-chick Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 I think they should give some of the children a storyline or at least one that involves them it would be quite realistic because sometimes in soaps the kids just disappear at times.
loveangelmusicbaby Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 I think young children are too young to be in the credits or have heavy storyllines. I am sure in a few years or as they grow older they will be able to have lines and heavy storylines. They really are too young to be working many hours and days. It will only put pressure on them. I mean, look at all the child stars of Hollywood and Australia.
dan Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Another thing to remember is that young children often can't tell the difference between pretend situations for the show and real situations so can get genuinly distressed. Such a situation caused complaints for an episode of Corrie when Josh was literally being fought over by his two fathers having a slanging match and fight in the back garden.
Frankie Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I think the little tot(s) who play(s) bay Pippa is/are great. She/they always look as if she/they understand exactly what is going on and shethey were so good and well behaved at the funeral.
Emma_B Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 ^ I agree. *spoilerish* The part when she was supposed to be saying goodbye to Flynn, she looked genuinely upset, probably because Sally went, "Its bedtime now"! But it seemed so real, and Flynn's face as Sally took her out was so heartbreaking. That was the point when I lost it completely, actually.
