Five editing

I think Five are very responsible in the things they choose to edit.

Can you imagine how many complaints they would have had showing the plane crash after the London Bombings? I'm certain that if I had children, I wouldnt want them watching scenes of people taking drugs. I can see the logic behind the thought that Kim being knocked over by a car, could have been cut......... it made me jump.

I think Home and Away has an excellent time spot in the UK, most people are coming in from work and are sitting down to watch TV, but they are extremly aware of different factors which work both alongside and against this time.

With regards to the Cyclone episode. If they cut it for the reasons that I have heard (because of the strobe/harsh lighting sequences) then I'd be gratefull to Five.......... I'm epileptic and wouldnt be able to watch it without having a seizure. If it gets cut for that reason then it really does show that Five are responsible in thier editing and not just being mean.

I hope this doesnt offend anyone

I don't get it either. Most of the big edits were done for a reason. If Five were going to edit all the good bits, they would have completely butchered the Sarah seige episodes.

Thanks!

I dont understand why people seem to be so against Five. They are bringing us the best soap on TV at the mo and doing a really good job of it. If it werent for them, Home and Away wouldnt be seen in the UK

I agree - we should be grateful to FIVE as if it wasnt for them no doubt ITV would get the rights back and we would have it all over the schedules, dropped for Bank Holidays/Christmas and edits all over the place!

I think the fuss is because of the irresponsible post by the starter of this thread, claiming that five edit "nearly every episode", when in fact, they barely edit any unless they absolutely have to. That post should be edited, if not by the poster herself then by a mod (imo) :)

Here is the reply that I got from my email:

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Home And Away.

We were sorry to read your comments about this programme.

In very rare circumstances, we have to make a small ‘edit’ to a programme. For example, out of the last forty episodes that we have screened, 3 have had to be edited for bad language. The most recent, was an edit on the 19th April of only 3 seconds to remove offensive language.

Five, like the other commercial stations in the United Kingdom is licensed and regulated by Ofcom (Office of Communications). In short Ofcom looks after viewers’ interests and maintains the standards for programmes, advertising and technical quality.

As a broadcaster we have to comply with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.

We have logged your comments in the Viewer Enquiries Report, which is circulated throughout the company

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in Five.

They did not answer my question about the Cyclone storyline though but then again I did not expect them to.

Hey! Gosh I never realised five cut out so much! Its pretty annoying, unless like the five reply said if its only like 3 seconds long!

Which episode was it when martha was meant to be fixing the Holden's fuse box and she falls? So did only five cut it, or did seven originally cut it?
