I wished Kit and Noah had got together instead and I wished Hayley had died.

 , I think Noah and Haley were 'meant to be' but I thought Kit and Noah were so cute together as well :( , I wish they developed their relationship further

Exactly. The fall out would have been so much better, I seriously doubt Noah would ever have gotten over Hayley (or at least not within three months). Then they could've had the drinking, the Kit!comforting, the Judeness... *sigh* But we've said all this before. Refer to this fic which I'd totally forgotten about until just now. Should probably have finished that before giving up the fanfic.

I could see the Hayley/Kit/Paris thing though, as a second best.

I think that, unfortunately, in terms of the scriptwriters Hayley and Noah were "meant to be", they were always going to get back together and have the fairytale wedding. But, I too much preferred Noah and Kit. I wish things had been different.

Love the fic Ms Becky.

The reason I wanted her to go to Paris is that it was her and Noah's dream, and it seemed kind of sad that his death meant the end of that dream. Plus the timing was perfect for her to leave. It was after that point that her character went rapidly downhill, having (IMO) been in the show too long.

Mmmm, so true. I like this discussion! I should come into general chat more often. When Noah died the character of Hayley died too. I hated her with Scott because it was such a forced relationship: ok Dani's left, Noah's gone, two single people, I know put them together! Grrrr!

Yeah Noah never being mentioned was ridiculous but Ella mentioning Noah would have been even worse so I didn't really mind as by that time Hayley for me just wasn't the same character and I couldn't care less about her.

I agree that Bec's Hayley had totally run her course and I no longer found her interesting either (the fact that they ruined her character with the Kim/Scott/baby c**p didn't help, but I'll stop myself from going into a rant about this). But I do like Ella and I like the character she is portraying, even though I will never be able to think of that character as 100% Hayley. She does have several of Hayley's characteristics, and occasionally she says or does something that reminds me of Bec, but I think that's about as good as we're ever going to get with a recast.

That was slightly off topic though, sorry! What I really wanted to say was that the idea of Hayley dying instead of Noah is a stroke of genius. Considering how little I came to care about Hayley before Bec left, I'm surprised I hadn't thought of it myself! Something that really annoys me about H&A is that there have always been so many widows and hardly any widowers. Currently in the uk, we have Hayley, Leah, Beth and Irene who have all lost a partner, plus Sally about to lose Flynn. The only widower we have is Alf (and Barry, but he doesn't really count as we never saw Kerry and therefore she didn't die on screen). Hardly fair!

And even Scott's "death" - we only got to see Dani's emotions.

Men tend to react to grief/loss differently to women too (/sweeping generalisation), so it would be interesting to see a male character go through that.

I think Alf did a fantastic job when Ailsa died, especially with his rejection of Duncan (who, let's face it, deserved everything he got!). Even Barry's scenes where he revealed the truth about Kerry showed how great the male actors on the show could be given this sort of storyline.
