Recycling of Storylines

All soaps use new versions of old themes/storylines. I don't think it's fair to call them recycled if they give that storyline/theme a new focus or some point of difference.

Home and Away is good with revisiting old stories (and I like to consider them "shout outs to the past") compared to other soaps.

Some soaps (Days of our Lives included) recycle exact storylines and don't even bother to change the characters involved. So Home and Away does better in that respect.

I'm not saying it's a negative thing I thought it would be an interesting thread to post in, to compare old and current storylines! Just a bit off fun!!! Why do people take things so seriously??

How funny was it that Hayley had a car crash, Chloe had one, Joel, Alsia and who could forget Seb's car crash? That's what i can remember so far on the top of my head

the storyline last year when Robbie stepped on a needle in the bush and then went all weird and pushed Tasha away while he was waiting to find out the test results was the same as a storyline a few years ago when Vinnie stepped on a needle on the beach and wen through the whole 'trauma while waiting to find ou the results' thing and said that he wouldnt marry Leah etc etc.....actually at that time Leah was living in the house that the Hunters live in now.......hmm

^ Leah stepped on the needle, I'm pretty sure.

That storyline with Robbie did annoy me a bit, as it really was exactly the same. And it had only been a few years since Leah did it, not ages and ages, so most people would remember.

Sometimes even Neighbours covers a similar issue either in the same week or a few weeks later. The stories are often similar. I have also noticed that the main illness a character has is cancer! It seems to be the popular way to get rid of a character, or to demostrate their acting skills!

I think you are being given a hard time unfairly!!

When the episode on Friday here in the UK had Irene seeing Chloe, it reminded me of when Ailsa saw Bobby!

I think that because it is, or least used to be, a mainly teenage soap then storylines can be repeated with different characters as the viewing public are also changing.

No big deal. I also think it is fun to look back and compare.

I always find with Neighbours, that a few weeks after I see and episode then HAA seem to have a similar storyline. Of course, being in the UK, that means HAA do it first! :P One that really struck me was the terminal cnacer thing, but of course in HAA it was a much-loved character and hugely emotional, but in Neighbours it was a random guest character and probably just another plot device in the (predictable) saga that is Karl and Susan.

Then again, these probably would have gone out at similar times in Australia. And the scriptwriters do plan these months in adavnce so that may have been an accident.

The plane crash, now many people have said these are different storylines, with the one in HAA being minor and in Neighbours killing off main characters. OK, fine. But what's happening now in Ramsay Street - "Who is sending the notes? Who planted the bomb? Evil is coming...."

When I wrote my reply in this topic, I didn't mean to sound like I was being negative to you, snowbrow. It was just a general comment. But the observations you have made are true and just :)
