snowbrow Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 I thought It would be fun to start a thread about all the Storylines over the years which have been recyled or were similar in some ways here are just a few I could think of:Selina Cult Storyline & Tasha Believers Storyline Kane Cancer & Vinnie Cancer Hayley Gives birth in Bush & Gypsy gives Birth on Road Side Will not knowing he's the father of Gypsy's baby during her pregnancy & Scott not Knowing about Hayley's Baby! Will Lost at sea during storm & Scott & Amanda Lost at Sea!I'm sure there are loads more recycled & similar Storylines!!
ste Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 There are some similarities between certain events within these storylines, but in my opinion the storylines themselves have been pretty different. Example. Flynn and Kane both had cancer - similarity ends there. In Flynn's case, it was a storyline about his death. Cancer was just the chosen illness by the writers to cause that death. He didn't undergo long term chemotherapy treatment, he didn't hide the illness from his wife (he told her immediately, in fact), and he didn't recover. In fact, the whole storyline was very little about cancer, and very much about facing the death of a loved one. In Kane's case, it wasn't about death at all. It was about Kane's (noble?) struggle to hide the truth from his wife so she could finish school. It was about his struggle to have chemo and treatment for his cancer without his wife finding out. This time, the storyline WAS about cancer, and the effects of treatment. And it was also about deceit. Doing the wrong thing but for the right reason. So the storylines were entirely different in every way possible. The only similarity was the cancer factor. And it wasn't even the same kind of cancer. The other examples you've given could be broken down in the same way. Dan sneezed last week. Gypsy sneezed in 2002. OMG, they're recycling another storyline!
gryphons_halo Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 I would liken Kane's cancer storyline to Vinnie's one more than to Flynn's. As Ste said, Flynn's was completely different. To be fair though, how can a soap opera run for 17-18 years and not repeat storylines? Theres only so many things a soap opera, by its nature, can cover, and Home and Away will always have the same generally story ideas coming up over and over again, with slight variations on the theme. Theres really no way of avoiding this.

I've watched the show for nearly 15 years and love it to bits. But I also like comparing different era's & storylines! I just thought that this would be a fun thread to do!!

I didnt know Hayley gives birth in the bush. How much longer do we have to wait, they have really dragged this one on.

Pippa fostered kids while she was a widow and Sally fostered kids while she's a widow I bet no one picked that out Personally i don't care if they recycle storylines, just as long it's a different theme to the other story
