Mine is that you don't have to be logical; you can root for a baddie if you like & nobody need know & no-one gets hurt in reality.

What's yours?

A chance of escapism and the realisation that during the bad times of your life, things could be *a lot* worse.

I like them because most of the time they are rather far fetched! lol. You'll never find a town like, summer bay for example, that has so much going on, and when you watch it 5 times a week, you feel very involved! So you experience all these things, that in real life, you probably wouldn't experience half of! lol

One thing I like is that even when a show runs for 40 years, the focus is always the same. See, there are two kinds of soaps: Location based and family based.

Family based soaps centre around family, and there's always at least one of them after 20 years.

They include: Home and Away - The Fletchers

Days of Our Lives - The Hortons

Bold and the Beautiful - The Forresters

The Sullivans

Location based soaps generally don't have the characters they started with by the time they finish, and they're limited to one street/building/town

They include: Neighbours - Ramsey Street

Coronation Street - Coronation Street

Desperate Housewives - Wisteria Lane

Secret Life of Us - a small block of flats in St. Kilda

Headland - South Coast University/Headland Hotel

Number 96 - Number 96

Prisoner - Cell Block H

The only implausibility with the second kind (in this case, Neighbours) is that everyone in the street works in the same shopping complex. Paul owns Lassiters, Max and Izzy at Scarlet Bar, Elle and Dylan at Lucinda's, Harold, Lou, Sky and Connor at The General Store, Lyn and Janelle (formerly) at A Good Hair Day, Karl, Boyd and Toadie at the Medical Centre. All the kids go to the same two schools (Bree, Janae, Rachel and Zeke at Erinsborough High; Sky, Boyd and Stingray at Eden Hills Uni.) This just doesn't happen in real life.

Just the fact most of it is mindless dribble, but very entertaining dribble hehe  . Nothing is mean't to be too serious and you can just sit back and watch them without having to think. After working all day, the last thing I wan't to do is think when I get home hehe :D .

I dont know. I watch Shortland Street 'cos its addictive, but in total honesty, its a load of crap. The more unrealistic they are, the more exciting they are to watch.

The great thing about a soap are that although there all Fictional they all have meaning in some way or another.

Every storyline that happens; 9 times out of 10 it happens in real life... And in a way they help you in life - maybe it shows how someone can deal with something depending on the situation. I feel it helps with everyones learning process in life its self.

And all so like someone said it helps getaway from things!!!
