The Beginning of the End

I can't believe there's hardly any build up to this storyline whatsoever! One minute everything's normal and a couple of eps later Flynn announces that not only he has cancer, but that there's nothing they can do? It seems strange and I don't think I like it.

Hmm, I see what you mean, though Home & Away has always had shock storylines. If you remember the death dreams (or, now, premonitions) that he had last month, that kind of built up to it, although people probably forgot about those already.

Remember too that in real life, this kind of thing does happen, which explains how things are quite normal and then all of a sudden he has terminal cancer and nothing can be done.

I think there was a bit of background to it. When Flynn was having the mole checked at the school, he said to the doctor, later in his office, i didn't think anything of it since the last time i had it checked, i didn't think it was anything to worry about. Or something along those lines. Whereas the story with Alex on Neighbours was just like Bam, symptons, oh they've gone away, oh no they're back again.

I think Flynn's was a lot more realistic.

To quote myself, I've never had terminal cancer before, but isn't that sort of how it happens.

You find a lump/mole, you have it checked out , they tell you what the situation is.

Yes, but that doesn't all happen in the space of a few days. It only takes two episodes (if you don't count the stupid dream predictions, which I don't) for Flynn to go from being perfectly fine and healthy to having just a few months to live. Ok, so he's a doctor and could probably hurry his test results along, but how fast can these things go?!

Yeah, but Flynn is still perfectly fine for another month or so is he not.

That's not the point. :P Maybe I'm biased about this storyline as I always thought it was a bad idea to have yet another cancer story, but I'm sure once it gets going it will be done really well. I think it will be saved by the acting performances.

It is! Kate and Joel are excellent throughout this story.

If you're a doctor or a nurse (or you have friends in high places at a hospital),you can generally hurry your test resuts along a bit....and also I don't know what the situation is like in Australia, but in the UK, generally test results are pretty fast if it's for something serious like cancer.

Does anyone know how long it is from when Flynn finds out he has terminal cancer to when he actually dies? 'Cos I don't know how much of Flynn and Sally moping around I can take, although I doubt I'll be able to take Sally and Summer Bay in grief mode, and I'm sure we'll have a lot of that, so I don't really know how Summer Bay's SuperDoc dying soon is much consolation anyway lol.
