I love music Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 You know, this WILL - I hope! - make sense when you get to read it but can any Aussie ppl - or even non-Aussie ppl well up on Australian expressions - help me out with the chapter I'm working on. What would be a typical Aussie nickname for someone who's not very quick on the uptake? In the UK, we'd probably say Lightning or something similar, but would you say the same in Oz? What would be the general slang term in Australia for buying drugs? I was thinking more of soft drugs like pot. Thanks, I couldn't write this fic without you! ps If you're following, Chapter 10 was posted yesterday; this info is required for Chapter 11.
Sunny Girl Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 I think the most user friendly Aussie term for someone who's not very quick on the uptake would be 'drongo'. As for the term used for buying soft drugs, I have no real idea - unless you want to make up a word like 'drugster', it might be an idea to ask someone else. I'll ask around though ...

Don't ask around, they'll wonder what you're up to!!!! Thanks. I'll use Trigger (which is a name I've poached from a UK comedy series ) as it's a more or less permanent but tongue-in-cheek nickname and I think Frank might throw a few punches if ppl kept calling him Drongo... And I'll use "grass" as I reckon nearly every country knows it's slang for pot. I want to work on Frank's story now, especially how he tried robbing the bank when he was eight (see, I'm really doing my homework now! ) but I'll still have Carly, Lynn, Sally and Kane in the next chapter. I already know exactly how this chapter will end, but I've got quite a bit of work to do on it yet.
Sunny Girl Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Can't wait!!! I guess pot can also be called 'weed', over here...
I love music Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Can't wait!!! I guess pot can also be called 'weed', over here... Weed. Thanks, I forgot about that one! From reading Frank's biography, I guess his Dad was in jail when he was fostered? Does anyone know what happened to his Mum? Also, could Frank sing as well as being a brilliant guitarist? Apologies to anyone who would prefer me to stay with the original H&A story, but I'm writing my own version of how he joined a rock band as I know there was at least one main character in the actual group and I don't want to bring any more main characters in the fic at this stage.
Sunny Girl Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 His father was a professional criminal, his mother was an alcoholic. He could sing as well as play the guitar. I remember at one stage there was a band formed with Lance, Martin and Frank - "The Bayside City Rollers." Frank talked Pippa into doing lead vocals on opening night. Um...Frank's band has now been formed in TAFE and he now plays heavy rock... Many thanks for your help.
Sunny Girl Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 Not a worry . . . Everyone's perspectives are different. It's my pleasure to help a budding author. I'm twenty pages in to my story but it's not a fan fic so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it ...

I'm twenty pages in to my story but it's not a fan fic so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it ... You could post it on:- www.fictionpress.com I need to get back to writing original fiction, fanfics are a bit of a cop-out. But fun.
Sunny Girl Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 Thanks - I'll have to think about it ....
