After a little discussion in her fic, I don't think Sally's age is correct? She was 6 when she came to the Bay? The show has been going for 18 years.. meaning she is 24?

Sally's been aged in the show as well, though I always thought she was 8 in 1988, because I read somewhere that she celebrated her or was 24 in 02.

Which means she's 26 now.. 8 years older than Kane.. Sounds more correct than 2 years older, which seemed... too incorrect.

If Sally was 8 in 1988 (when H&A began) and Kane 17 in 2001 then that does make four years difference! I would have far preferred to have made Sally age 6 for the fanfic (mainly because kids have usually outgrown invisible friends by the age of 5 or 6) but that would have meant she was born in 1982 and Kane born in 1984 - only two years difference.

I think, like most soaps, H&A blurs characters’ ages to suit a story. For instance, Kane was originally in the same class as Dani but later they had him as older. I’m pretty sure I remember Rhys or Flynn or someone saying something like a “15-year-old schoolgirl” (Kirsty) had run off with a “19-year-old man”. Meanwhile, Dani was only 17, now two years younger than Kane. (*confused*)

Much, much later, when Kane returned for a second stint in the series, it sometimes seemed like Sally’s character was about ten years older than Kane!!!

So I think I’ll just do what H&A does and blur the ages. To suit my story, Sally is 8 and Kane four.

Thanks.

Can anyone tell me if Sally always called Pippa by her first name when she was first fostered? Did she ever call her Mum/Auntie Pippa or Mrs Fletcher?

I watched the episodes shown on living and remember them very clearly.

Regarding Sal's age - the first time Sal's age was ever mentioned was when the whole thing with Dodge was going on (mid-89). She was said to be '9 years old'. At some point around the time Debra took over (July 1990), Sal was said to be '11'. And when she was arguing with Pippa about Michael in early 91, it was said she was '11'. The next reference I have of Sally's age was in April 1994, when she said she was 'nearly 15'. She celebrated her 17th birthday in March 1996. She was in year 3 in 1988 (this was stated in episode two) and started Summer Bay High in 1992. This clearly marks her age on arrival to be around 8 and her birthday March / April 1979, which would be right. Kate Ritchie's own birthdate was August 14th 1978.

The people in the early years that Sally interacted with was very limited, obviously due to her young age and short amount of screen time. She enjoyed a very close relationship with Tom and Pippa. She was spoilt a bit by Frank and Carly, obviously due to their age and when Bobby arrived, she treated Sal a bit different. Although she also had a sense of control towards Sally, she treated her more like a grown up than the others did. Steven, being younger, had less interest in Sally and teased her a bit, not really understanding the whole Milko sconario, whilst Lynn was the closest to Sally, spending time with her and understanding her more and these two seemed to have a natural sister bond, probably due to their previous history and smaller age gap. Lance and Sally had a nice little relationship as everyone knows, whilst Martin, probably due to jealousy, was less sensitive to Sal's childhood and could be a bit sharp with her. Alf and Ailsa were both very nice to Sally and she respected them a lot, as were Floss and Neville, who after the whole fiasco with Ben, kinda treated her a bit like a surrogate granddaughter.

Many thanks. I'm a bit stuck with the fic at the moment mainly because I never saw Sally's foster brothers and sisters. I love the idea of Steven behaving exactly like a brother would - I've got two so I know! ;o) - with the teasing etc and somewhere in the back of my head I know I'm going to use that. I've got a much better picture of the foster family now. Can I be a nuisanc again and ask if you or anyone knows what age Steven was?

She always called her Pippa, or Pip.

Thanks, Tess!

I think Sally was 8 when she came to the bay. 8 or 9.
