I love music Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I’ve received a couple of reviews on fanfic.net from someone who’s pointed out that Steven was fostered by the Fletchers AFTER Sally and Lynn. I know how they feel, I don’t like inaccuracies myself, so I was wondering...would anyone like me to write an explanation...? I was thinking of something like Steven DOES go back to the Home for a little while (the reviewer told me that Steven apparently thought of it but got talked out of it by Pippa and Tom) so that way I’ve got him arriving AFTER Sally and Lynn as well as BEFORE like in my fic... Anybody got any views on this?
Sunny Girl Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I also knew that Steven was fostered last. I just thought you wanted to write it like that ... Either way it doesn't really bother me, even though it did jar a bit at first. It's up to you ...
Skykat Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I think the whole point of a fanfiction is that you can do your own thing with the characters, put your own slant on situations and completely make things up if you want. I mean if you can resurrect characters then surely you can have them arriving at a foster home earlier? I always take fanfictions as a story in their own right and I think authors have the artistic license to do what they want with them, that's kind of the point. I think it would work to have Steven go to the Flether's twice but I don't really see the need for you to change things from what you have now, it certainly doesn't bother me in the slightest. Your story is excellent and I don't think you need to change a thing. Just my opinion.
I love music Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 I also knew that Steven was fostered last. I just thought you wanted to write it like that ... Either way it doesn't really bother me, even though it did jar a bit at first. It's up to you ... Actually, there's another glaring inaccuracy, if anyone's picked up on it. I didn't know, until I read about it much later, that the Fletchers fostered Frank from when he was eight and I mention they've never fostered a kid as young as Sally before... But I think I WILL write about Steven. I'm a bit stuck at the moment - got LOADS of changes coming up in work which I'm really anxious about and I'm finding it v.difficult to concentrate - so Steven would kickstart my writing again. I don't like fics that are word for word what happened in the actual show (tho I don't like fics that have people behaving out of character either! ) But I've decided I will write something about Steven for the reasons above. And because he hasn't been in the fic very much lately anyway.
Sunny Girl Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Actually, there's another glaring inaccuracy, if anyone's picked up on it. I didn't know, until I read about it much later, that the Fletchers fostered Frank from when he was eight and I mention they've never fostered a kid as young as Sally before... Maybe Sally had just turned eight and Frank was eight and a half when he was fostered .... Just a suggestion.
I love music Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Ha, writing about Steven has turned out to be a great idea actually as I've really got the picture in my head of the moment Pippa tells him he's part of the family and it's generating even more pictures... Unfortunately, have to go off line and stop writing now as my friend's due to get here by four. But for when I come online tomorrow, can anyone tell me, do Australians say sofa, settee or couch...? Just a small point, but thanks, these small points matter! That will be in chapter 15 BTW, will edit chapter 14 tomorrow and post then.
Sunny Girl Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Australians generally say 'couch'. Can't wait for the update!
I love music Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Australians generally say 'couch'. Can't wait for the update! Thanks for your help yet again. For anyone following, chapter 14 now posted. And, Sunny Girl, for a change I'VE actually answered one of YOUR questions - well, I hope it's the right answer anyway (on the Australian Discussion forum) *feels very proud of self*
Sunny Girl Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Love the new chapter! I can't find the question in the Australian Disscussion Forum that you've answered for me ... More pointers, please ...
I love music Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Love the new chapter! I can't find the question in the Australian Disscussion Forum that you've answered for me ... More pointers, please ... I don't know if it's the right answer tho! Maybe I should just stick to asking the questions, I'm good at that...
