Believe it or not, I only found out today - when I was bored in work and clicked on “Merchandise” on the BTTB site out of curiosity - that they’ve already written the back stories about Frank, Carly, Steven etc before they came to the Bay! I just assumed they hadn’t. So apologies if I haven’t stuck entirely with what happened. I only know bits and I’ve written my own version of events. I know not everyone will like that tho so sorry, I should navigate my way round this site more often!

But it's good to read an alternate (better?) version.

Yeah, and since nobody has seen the back-stories actually played out on screen, then it's just as easy to imagine a different version as it is to imagine the "official" version of events.

It's good for the imagination, keep writing and don't worry about the existing stories :)

Hmm, I'm not sure how I'd feel if someone totally rewrote what I'd written without my permission. Flattered maybe, but angry too. But never mind, I've started so I'll carry on anyway. Well, to tell the truth, I'm a bit sort of stuck at the moment because I'm up to a harrowing part and I always find it tough to write harrowing stuff because it's so intense....which is why I'm pottering on this message board and have just spent an hour on the phone instead of writing it... :P

For anyone following, fic updated today. :D

I'm planning to work on some of Pippa's own childhood next (I have a scene in my head :P ) and explain exactly how Tom was sacked from his job etc so expect more "nobody's reading this fic" tantrums and "I'm stuck" complaints for a while yet...

Thanks for your nice comments. :D

Okay, here we go again with the inevitable questions. I know that Tom got the sack from his job (I'm gong to explain how that happened) and that the Fletchers came to the Bay from the City. Anybody know anything else about their lives before? Was anything ever mentioned in H&A?

Thanks! :)

To be fair, producers often re-write bits of backstory to suit their own needs, so I'm sure they won't be too bothered by someone totally re-writing it! :D

Tom had his 40th birthday with the rest of the Fletcher Family in the City, then he was retrenched and they didn't think Pippa could ever have kids so they thought they would foster ... Home and Away also showed scenes with Bert, Pip's Dad who came to look after the kids when Pip was in the coma in the mid nineties. I'm not sure if they ever mentioned Pip's Mum though, or Tom's parents. I'll have to do a bit of research ...:P

Like all soaps! I started out with the intention of making Frank, Lynn, Steven and Carly vague background characters as I never saw any of the early series. But they grew on me and I like the challenge of getting a small piece of info that the writers never explored further and seeing what I can come up with.

Cool, I was wondering about their ages - I'm going to work on the day Pippa started school and needed a rough idea of the year so I could make the time I set it in more believable. In case you're wondering why I'm going so far back, I have an idea about how Pippa particularly connects with Sally.

I'm glad they haven't mentioned Pippa's family too much as I have my own ideas about that...

Thanks for your help! :)
