Hi everyone, knowing that Sally and Alf have known each other for years. Every time Sally calls Alf, Mr Stewart, i always wounder why she does this. It could be out of respect for him, but it sounds so silly as they have been through so much together over the years. They are always there for each other when it is needed. So why does she Address Alf in this manner. As after all, Sally is always saying he is her other father figure in her life.

Ive known this woman since I was 7 (she was in her 50s at the time) and I always used to call her Mrs (add surname) because thats what kids do. But even now that Im old enough to call her by her first name, I dont. Partly due to respect and partly because Ive always knows her as Mrs....

So id assume itd be the same with alf and sally.

It's because that's what she has always called him, it would feel weird if she suddenly called him "Alf" now.

It would be like you going to talk to your mum and suddenly calling her by her first name (unless you always have).

It also shows that she has a lot of respect for Alf.

There was a scene recently in Aus where Alf said "Drink your tea" and Sally said "yes Mr Stewart" and they both kind of chuckled because she still calls him that. But that's how she knows him and always will.

Me too! I was pleasantly surprised when I realised it wasn't about that at all!

[i still always call my aunts uncles and family friends uncle aunt or mr and mrs.And I'm 30 now and married with my own family now yet i still do it. I dont use their first name and ive known these people all my life. It's called RESPECT FOR YOUR ELDERS. Something the younger generation of today seem to have forgotten all about .

Any other opinions on this?
