COLEEN!!COLEEN!! Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 If it was Lucas that would be good but maybe an older character might be a change, like Tony perhaps.
Jess Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I don't think that H&A needs a gay character for the sake of it, but if the storyline was right and it fitted with the character then there's no problem. After all, 'Coronation Street' did a gay storyline with Todd/Sarah/Karl and that worked well IMO.
HAMMERFORLIFE Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 I ALSO THINK HOME AND AWAY SHOULD HAVE A GAY CHARACTHER AS IT IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS NEVER REALLY BEEN LOOKED AT AND WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THEY DONE IT AND ALSO AN ISSUE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE PUT FORWARD IN HOME AND AWAY IS RACISM BECAUSE LIKE GAYNESS IT HAS NEVER BEEN LOOKED AT IN DETAIL IN HOME AND AWAY THE RACISM STORY WORKED WELL FOR HOLLYOAKS WITHE MAKKI JUSTIN AND ALI
Long-lost Son Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 If they do ever get around to having a permanent gay character, I'm sure it'll be a woman. I think in TV it's a bit easier to have a lesbian character and/or a female character try out being gay (example: sky in Neighbours, Marissa in the OC). I dont think a mainstream audience would be ready to have a male gay character on tv (can you imagine Seth or Ryan meeting a guy and trying out a relationship with them? - no way). Also, if there was a gay character on Home and Away, of course their being gay would be the starter storyline... but hopefully as their time on the show progresses they become a character who happens to be gay.
katya Posted May 27, 2006 Report Posted May 27, 2006 dont think a mainstream audience would be ready to have a male gay character on tv (can you imagine Seth or Ryan meeting a guy and trying out a relationship with them? - no way). I don't think this should stop them. There are a lot of male gay characters in mainstream soaps (of course I can't think of any right now). Also, if there was a gay character on Home and Away, of course their being gay would be the starter storyline... but hopefully as their time on the show progresses they become a character who happens to be gay. I don't see why it has to be the starter storyline. Sexual orientation should be incidental, and as much of a storyline as someone being straight (unless they've just realised and are about to come out, or are struggling to deal with it). I apologise for not being very articulate, I'm really tired.
Emmadolly Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 It would be fantastic if there was a gay in the soap. As some of my best mates are gay, they are the most funny, kindess people you will ever meet. And it would be great to have a gay character, as long as it is not wasted in a silly storyline. As it would ruin it for future gay characters.
griseknoen Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 I would love to have a gay character on H&A, but I don`t want it to be obvious that he/she is gay. More that he/she sometimes has a comment, makeing us think the character might be gay, but never really get to know it. Like Stewie on Family Guy.
xGlowingAngelx Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 Yes I would also like to see a gay character on Home and Away but we'd need someone else too because none of the characters are gay and when you have another one you can shout at the screen "Just get together already!" lol.
Livi Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 Hi everybody! I was just thinking as I was reading this topic, how about bringing in a character like Daffyd in Little Britain....? "the only gay in the village" btw, this is menat as a joke, it would be a seriously bad story line for home and away me thinks....
Clairey Posted May 28, 2006 Report Posted May 28, 2006 I was just thinking, there aren't many lesbians in soaps. I know there aren't many Gay people in either, but I can't think of any lesbians, can you? I don't know if you would call Degrassi: The Next Generation a 'soap' but that has gay & lesbian characters, Marco being gay & he had that little fling with Dylan (Paiges brother) && the lesbians would be Paige & Alex, although they could be bisexual, or just 'experimenting'. & also, South of Nowhere has 2 lesbian main characters, Spencer & Ashley :]] Clairey xxx.
