stifler Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 in the mid 90's shannon had a crush on a girl, but ended up running away with the girls brother. throughout the storyline, there was no mention of the word 'lesbian'. pippa just said things like 'you know the way shannon is' and we all understood. shannon's bout of homosexuality seemed to have been 'cured' or something. but then when pippa returned in 2004, she announced that christopher was gay. and we had the whole nick/seb/chris storyline which was handled well. hayley at the time dismissed homophobia is stupid & that it wasn't an issue in the bay and alf of all people told christopher that michael (his dad) would have been proud of him for expressing himself. the last mention of homosexuality i can remember was diesel, but that obviously proved to be a non-starter. yeah, it's about time that h+a had a permanent gay character. someone that's main purpose isn't to be the 'gay character' but someone who just happens to be gay.
Nicom Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Ooo, this board is a surprise! I did not expect you making a topic about this subject tonight! lol Yes, i agree, i really think they do need to have a permanent gay character, but not emphasising on the homosexuality, if you know what I mean. Just like an ordinary character, who, as you said, happens to be gay!

Nicom Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 But please, no-one suggest my Jack turns gay! lol Jack and Martha, so cute, awww! lol
x..kt..x Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I agree. If they did have a character purely just for the fact that they're gay I think that would be wrong. I don't know if I'd like a big story line about a current character with the revelation that they're gay. Humm... but I think as it says in a different thread there should be more minorities in home and away, including homosexuals. And Nicole, you can't have Jack to yourself. *goes in a sulk* lol

God, H&A is a bit obsessed about couples actually! Jack, Tony and Lucas just got in the bay and on their first episode they gave MAJOR hints about who they would end up with! lol

Nicom Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I was just thinking, there aren't many lesbians in soaps. I know there aren't many Gay people in either, but I can't think of any lesbians, can you?
x..kt..x Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Well, people love it when characters get together don't they. I can't think of any lesbians either.
