joey-lee Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 I've had a hell of a lot of spare time recently, and in sorting out files on my computer I came across the following, taken from a site I used to be apart of during the late 90's early 00's (G'day Home and Away). I thought it would be appropriate with it being ten years on - it is quite long but should be interesting to fans who don’t recall the era, and a nostalgia trip for those who do! :...... 1996 saw Sally deal with a number of usual growing up issues but also some very unusual experiences! The year started with Sally believing she was still in love with Jack, much to the hate of Michael. Michael banned Sally and Jack from seeing each other, but they continued behind his back. Sally, however, was jealous by Chloe, as Jack had once before felt something for Chloe (and every other girl in the Bay!). The end of Sally and Jack’s relationship came around February, when Sally met Brendan Coyne, who was about to end his life, by jumping off a cliff top, before Sally persuaded him not too. Brendan managed to split Sally and Jack up, and in doing so, Sally realised she must have been stupid if she thought she really had feelings for Jack. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sally celebrated her 17th birthday at the caravan park, when Peter Moss [a man staying at the caravan park], claimed to be Sally's father! Sally recognised him, but knew there was no way he could have been her father. However, Mr Moss continued with his theory, and showed Sally photographs of his dead wife and family. Michael and Pippa became worried about Sally, who started believing there must be some connection between herself and Mr Moss. Sally started believing strongly that she must be the reincarnation of Mr Moss’ dead daughter, Catlin. Pippa and Michael became angry with Mr Moss, but allowed Sally to talk more to him regarding his strong feelings. The more Sally and he spoke, the more she believed. Sally became even more convinced when she learnt her favourite colour was the same as Catlin’s, she had a dog with the same name and knew the words to a song she had never heard before, only to find out that Mr Moss used to sing the same song to his daughter, Catlin. Mr Moss decided to take Sally to the house his daughter lived in, for her to see how familiar it was. Pippa and Michael decided to let her go, but only if Shannon would go with them, Shannon decided to go. So, off the three of them went, singing the song Mr Moss sang to Catlin, laughing and joking about how funny the song words were, when suddenly an on coming car appeared out of no-where, forcing Mr Moss to swerve to prevent a collision with the car, unlike the time his daughter and wife were killed. He knew what to do this time. But, the car accident turned out to be fatal, leaving Mr Moss in a coma. At the hospital, Sally spoke to Mr Moss as he lay blankly, as if to be sleeping. She told him that she believed everything, and thanked him for saving her life. Unfortunately, Mr Moss died as she spoke to him, leaving Sally devested at her loss. Sally mourned the death of Mr Moss as if he were her real father, and found a bracelet he left her at the house. She realised it used to be Catlin’s. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sally’s life continued quietly after Mr Moss’ death, until she was hit, just a month later, by yet another death, of her foster father, Michael. Michael died after trying to save Sam, in the flooded river. Pippa was left on her own for a second time, but Sally was old enough to help Pippa threw this, and managed to break threw Pippa’s shell of denial, as they both cried together in Pippa and Michael’s room. Michael’s son, Haydn turned up without notice, to his father’s funeral. He had left the family in turmoil when he stole money from the family, causing Pippa and Michael to separate for a short period of time. Sally had not forgotten this, and while Pippa decided to forgive Haydn for what he had done, Sally didn’t back down, until she noticed just how sorry Haydn had become. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sally slowly started looking at herself at 17, comparing herself to Shannon, realising she had not actually had any boyfriend that hadn’t turned out to be ‘complete losers’, and in turn started to question herself as she became increasingly depressed about not being attractive to guys. Pippa realised that there was something troubling Sally when her attitude towards life and the people around her, began changing. Sally became so obsessed with looking attractive and making a good impression, she asked a strange guy at the Surf Club to go for a walk on the beach. This lead to a disaster as he kissed and tried touching her, making her shockingly upset and disappointed with her actions. The same day, Sally decided to change her whole appearance after talking to Pippa about her life, at the river. She wore all black along with changing her makeup and hairstyle. She also drank a bottle of wine that was supposed to be put into Pippa’s meal. Selina and Shannon had organised an end of school party, and Sally turned up, already slightly drunk. Shannon became worried when Sally continuously drank glasses of Champaign, leaving her completely drunk as she left the party in tears. Shannon and Selina went to look for Sally, finding her at the river, sitting on a raft that Joey and Liam had put together. They all decided to see if the raft worked, by setting sail, on the river, unfortunately, it fell apart forcing them to swim to the river banks. But after Selina and Shannon found each other, concern started to spread, when they couldn’t find Sally anywhere along the river, and the SES and Pippa were told about how drunk Sally was. Pippa was devastated at the thought of loosing Sally to the same river that killed Michael. In fact, Sally was not dead, she had been found by a guy who called himself Jamie, who was mentally ‘slow’. A few days later, Sally had woken from her coma, but was extremely unwell, coughing constantly, asking Jamie for a doctor, who replied he could not leave the bush until ‘another 2 weeks’, as ‘Mr Donaldson’ told him so, whom later Sally found out, as Jamie put it, had ‘gone to Jesus’... She tried to escape as Jamie went to collect fish for food, but Jamie caught her trying to untie the canoe, and forced her back to the hut. Sally grew fond of Jamie, even though her condition was getting worse by the hour. Jamie tried to give her home-made medicine, but she couldn’t take it. Spending time with Jamie made Sally realise that he used to hang around the primary school in Summer Bay, when she was young, but he denied it. When Sally didn’t wake up after Jamie repeatedly asked her to, he went to Summer Bay to find Pippa, as Sally had told him too previously.Unfortunately when Jamie got to the house, there was no one in, and as he wondered around with the bracelet Mr Moss had given to Sally, who’d then given to Jamie, Jesse caught him in the Ross House thinking he was a burglar, leaving Jamie completely shocked and scared, who ran back to the bush without telling anyone where Sally was. Thankfully, Jesse managed to get the bracelet Mr Moss had left Sally, as Jamie dropped it as he ran. Shannon recognised it to be Sally’s and knew she was wearing it at the party. So the hunt for Jamie and Sally was on? Alf vaguely recognised who Jamie was which helped the SES find a location to search. But Stephen had a strong feeling regarding looking in another direction, and decided to go and search on his own, much to the frustration of Pippa. But, after scaling down a search for himself and with the help of Kelly’s mobile, he scrambled around the bush, almost falling off a cliff, finding the hut and taking an unconscious Sally back threw the bush to his motor boat. Calling for help, as the motor boat rushed down the river, it didn’t look good for Sally whom had been unconscious for a few days? Sally survived the ordeal, but stayed in hospital as she needed medication and a lot of rest. When she woke, Pippa was by her bedside. Sally wanted desperately to thank Stephen, and asked everyone to just leave Jamie alone. Sally also wanted Pippa to make up with Steven, after she found out they had been arguing regarding Sally and the ‘real’ reasons behind Stephen’s search to find Sally alone. Sally decided to give Jamie a gift, and asked Shannon to take it to him. Meanwhile Stephen left the bay without seeing Sally, leaving just a note to Pippa, who read it in tears...
tessa305 Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Thanks for that. Do you know what was in the note?
ste Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sally slowly started looking at herself at 17, comparing herself to Shannon, realising she had not actually had any boyfriend that hadn’t turned out to be ‘complete losers’, and in turn started to question herself as she became increasingly depressed about not being attractive to guys. This is one of my favourite Sally eras. I think it's what makes her stand out from the other characters as the realistic one. And it's an aspect of Sally that's never quite left her. She's always had a little insecure side and it's great. Especially for the main character of a soap to have this shy, unconfident personality. I remember a scene around the time of Shannon and Selina's exits, and Chloe was complaining about not having anyone left to talk to, despite Sally sitting right next to her, and Sally was obviously put-out by this, but no big deal was made of it. There were a lot of little scenes like that in 95/6/7 that weren't storylines, but just little scenes that reminded us Sally is an out-sider. She's certainly more confident these days, and definately more popular, but no-one ever really grows out of the insecurities we had as a teenager. I'm lucky enough to have the Mr Moss episodes on tape and they are fantastic. I'm a bit disapointed that after his death she's never mentioned or spoke about him again. Does she still believe in everything he told her now that she's grown up? I'd be interested to know that. Does she still believe she is Caitlin? The episodes in which Sally went missing were fantastic too. That was a great storyline as it went on for weeks (in contract to the recent Matilida kidnapping which was over in about 2 episodes). I remember Jamie walking into the house calling out to "Mrs Pippa" and then Jesse finding the bracelet on the floor. I have said it before but I believe Sally is a walking time bomb just waiting to go off. I know she's developped OCD and it looks like it's flaring up again, but one day the weight of *everything* that's happened to her since childhood is going to take it's toll and she's going to explode in a massive fashion.
joey-lee Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 This is also my favourite Sally era! Actually the scenes you mentioned regarding Chloe and Shannon's departure, were mentioned again later, as Sally wasn’t voted student council it was a big kick in the teeth, she had a massive outburst to Shannon who also ended up in tears, with huge sobs about how no one knows she exists - how much 'I just wanted to be like you'! She actually states 'I HATE being me..'. It's a fantastic scene, I had on video but for some reason or another I can’t find it...If I do, it'll be uploaded for sure... Sally spoke about Caitlin and how she believes in reincarnation, to Stephanie around a month before she was killed of the cliff... I also vaguely remember her mentioning it to Jesse in 1998, but since then I don’t know… (Sorry about all of the question marks, I'm not sure why they are there; I just pasted the information...)
loveangelmusicbaby Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 I didn't watch Home and Away during the early years but through pictures and clips I have seen how much she has grown. Kate is a splendid actress. I hope she doesn't go anytime soon!

Gemma J Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Hi Do you know the piece of music used in that episode when sally went missing? Thanks Gemma
halcyon06 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 She's an awesome character....Even people who dont watch Home and Away recognise her when she's on the telly, like my Gran, she told me she never watches it, but then said after seeing Sally 'She's been in it for years, she doesn't change much' which is kinda true....She looks so much prettier now than she did around 2000
