Question about Angie's name

I have been watching the episodes where Tash finds about her mother and on her birth certificate it states:

Mother:

Family Name: RUSSELL

Maiden Family Name: MARKHAM

So i'm confused. Have I missed something, was Angie married to someone named Russell? And how can Josie and her be cousins if Russell is not Angie's maiden name?

Can anyone explain it to me?

As far as I know, Angie's maiden family name is her mother's maiden name.

Therefore, Angie must be related to Josie through the father's side of the family.

When Angie was actually on the show, she called herself Mrs. Angela Russell. I think it was Morag who did some digging and revealed that there had been no Mr. Russell - Angie was never married. At the time, I figured Angie must've had a maiden name different to Russell, otherwise Rhys would've known she wasn't a Mrs. I'm not entirely sure what Angie's mother's surname was when she came to town after Angie's death, or if anyone used it.

The birth certificate could fit in with this, suggesting that Angie was born Angela Markham and then changed her surname to Russell to seem like she'd been married (for pride's sake, or to get out of hot water, maybe). Or yeah, it could mean they're saying her family name was Russell and her mum's maiden name was Markham.

I guess this was a problem when Josie came along. They could've called her Josie Markham, but only a handful of viewers (most probably) would ever have noticed the birth certificate, or remembered the confusion about 'Mrs' Russell. Or maybe the writing team forgot about that. Whereas calling her Josie Russell tied her in with Angie more firmly in the viewers' minds.

In all honesty, I just think each group of writers dealt with the issue as it came up, and it was never very clear. But then maybe they didn't realise anyone would be watching that closely.

I have a really bad memory, but i think that the Markham, is the name of her dad. Remember the rich guy in the large house. I think he was Mark Ham-----, or something. He was the one that set Tasha up with the money for the diner, well i think i am right , if not i am sure another user will tell us, well lets hope.

Nah, Loz has already explained the answer above.

Like she said "russell" was a fake name used by Angie, but when Josie came along the writers probably decided to stick with "russell" because viewers remembered and it and most would have forgotten about the fake name thing (it was really only mentioned in passing at the time anyway). Either that, or the writers just forgot.

I think it was said by someone your board Ste, probably Jay "about Crap writers and McGuffins."

Well yeah, it would have made sense if there had been any reason for the fake name thing but there wasn't. It was just thrown in and then never explained. Why do that when there were already so many inconsistencies in the Angie story that hadn't been explained?
