Pierced Musie Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 It was a semi joke because I felt I needed to stick up for the tomboy image
Skykat Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I remember freaking out when I saw the replacement Selina... and Ailsa. I found it really strange when these took place too and was glad to read that it was only temporary in the end credits but when Nancy Haynes (I'm pretty sure that was her name, correct me if I'm wrong though) took over as Ailsa for a few episodes I remember cringing at how wooden and false she was. Although the change in appearance unnerved me I could have coped had she been a good actress. People are always wary of change because it's different and unsettling. As previously mentioned, Ella needs time to settle in but from what little I've seen so far she seems to be a superb actress so I don't think it's an issue that she doesn't look like Bec. As other people have mentioned in this thread I think it's the ability to act that makes a character believable rather than what they look like and from what I've seen so far and read in this forum, Ella can certainly act so I think she'll do great.
claire_louise Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 I don't think looks are that important really. When you think about it, most of the recasts have been done with people who don't look like the original actor or actress. Joel McIlroy looks nothing like MDW (which is a shame, I must admit!), the temporary Ailsa didn't look like Judy Nunn, and the two Pippas weren't that alike. The only one I can think of where the two actresses had any particular resemblance was the two Natalies, and even they weren't that similar - just the same hair/eye colour and build.
