Apart from Ray Meagher (Alf Stewart) she is the only other person to have been on Home and Away since it first aired in 1988. And she is a talented, young actress. She best not be leaving! H&A need people like her, otherwise, if Ray in his old age decides to retire from the show, then H&A will just be over run by new characters who have no history in the Bay. It would be a great shame to see her go, if she goes. But from interviews she seems adament at staying in the Bay, so my best bet for this 2008-leaving is that they mean that's when her contracts up for renewal. starrychris Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 I highly doubt that Kate Ritchie will leave. Her contract may expire in 2008, but that doesn't mean she's not going to re-sign which she probably will. Whilst on the topic, I hope you are all voting for Kate Ritchie for Gold Logie!

She has said many times she is in it for the long haul. But she may think that 20 years is a long time and may then leave. If it is true than we still have 2 years of Sally!
ste Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 In the UK shows like EastEnders let their biggest stars go off and do other things for extended periods of time (and I'm not talking about the occasional panto). If she asked they would probably let Kate have 1-2 years off to do other things and then come back. I hope she doesn't leave at all though!

Madlyaddicted Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 The thing I love most about Home and Away and why it's the ONLY soap I watch is the continuity - the way old characters keep coming back - it makes it so much more believable and it's great seeing how people have changed. I really hope 'Sally' remains in the form of Kate Richie. I always hoped she'd end up back at the caravan park fostering lots of kids. Once Flynn has gone there's no reason why she can't find someone else to love... or just look after kids on her own. It wouldn't be the same without her.
