I thought it worked well, considering how it pans out. Having Madge Wilkins run over by Jesse would have been boring, but have Jesse ask his best friend out, get rejected, get pissed, then kill them, worked awesomely.

Totally agree with what you said JM, defio would have not had the forthcoming, tears arguments general bithiness and fights to look forward to if they just got our Jess to run old Madge over
