Frankie Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 But wasn't Irene's screams brilliant! I thought she did it so well, and the way she collapsed into Barry's arms! Bring on Diana! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought that Irene's scream was heart rending. Lynne was brilliant in this episode. In fact, the whole episode was done brilliantly IMO, I thought it was very moving, easily the best episode in a long long time. Irene was amazing, Alf was awesome, Kate was great. The emotional impact of this epsiode was far greater than anything we have seen in a long time. This was due to a very well written episode and some brilliant acting. Why can't it be more like this more often?
Eddie Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I'm about to watch the next episode now. This should be brilliant.
Jay Preston Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Yeah the devastation in this episode was pretty good. I remember it kept me guessing at the time, even though I knew in my heart that it would be Chloe.
claire_louise Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 It was very well done right up until the moment that Irene screamed. The actual revelation that someone had died and that it was Chloe was a bit messy I thought. I would have preferred something a bit more dramatic, where we saw Chloe and Irene talking and then suddenly Chloe took ill. Then the cut to Alf in the hall and hearing Irene scream perhaps. It was just a bit anti-climactic to me that one scene Chloe is fine the next she is dead, with nothing in between. It didnt get me teared up at all and it should have, and would have, had we actually seen signs of the death. I suppose theyd already gone through the whole resucitation thing with Martha earlier in the episode though so they couldnt show us that again. Id score it 8 out of 10, just felt Chloe deserved more of a showy final scene, since she was such a big part of the show. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Totally agree. Chloe was such a huge character and it was a real shame that she didn't get a proper final scene.
stra gilr Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 I think the point is that in situations like this you don't get a lead in or a build up in real life, you can be talking to some one and the next minute they are dead, that's what embolisms do. So I think the emotional impact was great because of this, it showed how you can think everything is OK and then it isn't. I thought this was one of the best episodesI have seen in ages. I loved how they constructed it, I thought Irene's scream was so heartfelt and the way she just folded was remarkable. I thought the final scene on the beach was good too. The way Alf remembered the events of the night and into the next morning really made the whole thing work. This was a remarkable episode on all fronts, i.e. writing, acting, directing. They should all be very proud of what they achieved, it worked beautifully. It scored a lot more than 10 out of 10 with me.
Ashirr-Leigh Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 Even though the bit where you found out that Chloe had died was really sudden and rushed, I thought that was good. That's the way her death happened - sudden and quick, so it was fitting that we found out that way. I agree though, the episode was very cleverly portrayed, I loved it.
britishrules Posted December 29, 2005 Report Posted December 29, 2005 a brilliant episode , lynne was fantastic as usual , although diana is the blood relative of olivia , but irene really loves kids and hope she does get custody , but it will be obvious it won't be in her favour
summerbaychick Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 But the fact that they didnt say anything was why it was so clever.
chatter box Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 I remember that episode, and it was IMO one of the best, if not the best, episodes of the year. Everyone was superb, especially Ray and Lynne. It had everything. I am sure I cried, in fact I know I did. It was emotional and gut wrenching for all sorts of reasons. I know a lot of pople got hooked on the "why bring Chloe back to Kill her" wagon, but that was beside the point. It wrked because it WAS Chloe, anyone else and there would have been no pay off. It was clever, emotionally challenging, well written and brilliantly acted.I would love to see it again, has anyone uploaded it?
Bareenfan Posted December 30, 2005 Report Posted December 30, 2005 It was an extraordinary episode and will be remembered for a long time.
